Brainboxes Acheives ISO14001 Environmental Accreditation

Liverpool UK - 15 April 2008 -Brainboxes, a leader in serial and Bluetooth connectivity, today announced that it has received accreditation to the ISO14001 environmental standard. This globally recognized standard is awarded where a company can demonstrate effective management of all its environmental impacts, together with a process of continuous improvement.

Brainboxes employed consultants from the Manufacturing Institute to carry out an independent environmental audit of the company. "After receiving the results of this is audit, we carried out a full review of our current policies and assessed the impact of our activities on the environment," comments Peter Gray, Brainboxes' Quality Manager. "This covered everything from our product design, production operations, creation and disposal of wastes, office practices, order shipping and transportation, including company car usage."

Brainboxes has always been aware of the need to continually review company processes and has been working with National Quality Assurance (www.nqa.com) since 1994, helping the company to create and maintain internationally recognised accreditation standards. To achieve accreditation to ISO14001 two visits were made by an NQA assessor over a four month period and a recommendation for approval came through in February 2008, with the final approval on 17th March 2008.

The Canadian Dollar reached and sustained parity with the US Dollar in September. We have repriced all of the products on our Canadian web site (www.tekgear.ca) to reflect this monumental event. Prices on all products have been reduced by at least 15% in order to match the current US price list.

Brainboxes, has been working closely with Microsoft for the past 18 months to ensure that now its latest operating system, Windows Vista™, has been released its customers can seamlessly move over with full confidence that their serial requirements will be met.

Windows Vista was available to consumers from end of January 2007, but the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) release version of Windows Vista, for manufacturers, occurred in early December. To meet this release date Brainboxes were ready with a Microsoft Approved and Signed driver for both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Tek Gear wins Navy Contract to Supply Head Mounted Displays

Tek Gear announces that it as won a contract to supply the US Naval Survival Training Institute with high resolution, immersive, head mounted displays. This supply contract is in support of NSTI's Parachute Descent Procedures Training program.

All Navy Aviation Survival Training Centers (ASTC) are using virtual reality trainers (VRT) to teach parachute descent procedures. The VRT can simulate parachute malfunctions (i.e., line over, riser twist or blown panels) and also allows the student to practice steering the chute into the wind and toward a suitable landing zone. The response of the fleet to the VRT trainers has been overwhelmingly positive.

Product deliveries are commencing immediately and are scheduled to be shipped to eight primary installations in the USA.

Z800 Price Increase

Tek Gear Delivers eMagin OLEDs for Critical Military System

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sensor Technology Systems, Inc., has selected Tek Gear's eMagin-based (AMEX:EMA - News) O2 microdisplay OEM kit for their new Enhanced Heads-Up Display (E-HUD) module for the AN/PVS-21 Low Profile Night Vision Goggle. The O2 OEM Kit is a drop in module that makes it easy to integrate high resolution microdisplays into new and existing designs. The O2 Kit includes eMagin's new SVGA+ OLED-XL microdisplays and Tek Gear's high performance controller.

An accessory for STS's AN/PVS-21 Low Profile Night Vision Goggle, the E-HUD gives the device unmatched sensor fusion capabilities. The E-HUD can overlay external video signals, such as navigation data or the output of a thermal scope, onto the real world scene. This provides the user with a high level of situational awareness.

"We selected the O2 as it was the only drop-in solution that could provide us with the high-resolution, low-power and all-weather operation that our customers demand," said Alan Page, General Manager, STS. eMagin's new OLED-XL devices typically feature significantly longer (>4x) luminance half life and exhibit at least twice the nominal luminance. The new technology also improves on eMagin OLED microdisplays' industry-leading power efficiency, depending on the specific OLED-XL product and operating parameters.

For the OLED-XL microdisplays, eMagin scientists developed a more efficient OLED structure while maintaining pixel-level efficiency. The results are brighter microdisplays that require no additional power consumption. Typical power consumption of a full color SVGA+ or SVGA 3D OLED-XL display running 60 Hz video at 60 cd/m2 is less than 250 mW. No heaters or special modes are required to achieve high quality, instant-on video performance at temperature ranges up to -40 degrees C and +65 degrees C.

Live chat is now available throughout the website. We've made the Flash based chat application available on almost every page through a link instead of embedding the application in each page. Its a bit less obtrusive to do it this way.

MicroOptical begins shipments of SV-6's

We received our first shipment of SV-6's last week. For those of you who have them on a confirmed order, they should be at your location this week some time. Orders were filled on a First In First Out basis and we are sticking to the delivery schedule we set out back in August. If you have a quoted date for delivery expect it on or before that date. If you do not have one, give us a call to lock one in. Now is a great time to get off the "fence" and make sure you get your SV-6 before someone else snaps it up.

The SV-6 has been re-designed from the bottom up: new optics, new electronics and new cabling makes this the best and most reliable SV-6 model MicroOptical has ever made.

MicroOptical SV-6 Shipping Update

The current ship date for SV-6's is now 3rd week of September to 1st week of October. This is a slight slip in the delivery from the Mid-End September quoted at the beginning of last month.

Right now it is just a board issue. Optics, cables and everything else has been completed. Once the new circuit boards have been qualified, the product should be ready to ship.

W1 is Available Now

W1, Tek Gear's own Bluetooth RS232 module, is available now.

The W1 is a Class 1 Bluetooth device based on Ezurio's highly sucessful BISM2 module.

Robust AT command set, Power on Pin 9 capabilities and low power consumption make this a great solution for RS232 cable replacement.

Demo product is available now with production plastics due in January.

Z800 Multi-3D Almost Ready to Ship

We have been working on a complete overhaul of the eMagin Z800's electronics. The main reason for this modification was to support dual input 3D. While we were at it, we added independent Gain and Offset adjustment as well as luminance control for each display to maintain image balance over the life of the product.

The new electronics support:
i) Single Input 2D
ii) Single Input 3D - Frame Sequential
iii) Dual Input 3D

If you have a dual output ATI video card, you should be able to see 3D on the Z800 now!

Retrofits should be quite simple and takes just a few minutes: just replace the PCB in the Z800 visor and the PCB in the interface module and you are done. We utilize the existing cabling and earbuds.

The tracker is NOT supported in this version as we have been unable to get any technical support from the manufacturer to include it in this revision.

The electronics are in final testing right now and should be available by Mid-September.

eMagin XL

New eMagin SVGA+ Color XL OLEDs are in!

We received our first batch and quickly put it on the test bench. Preliminary results are exciting -marginally lower power consumption at regular brightness levels but 47% less power consumption at the higher brightness levels.

Micro Optical Delays Again...

Micro Optical delays shipment of SV-6 to Mid - End September, CV-3 to end of first week of August.

While this is not good news, we have to keep telling ourselves that this wait should be worth it: Support for the newer Kopin VGA Panels, new electronics, new cabling, and a new optic should make this a great upgrade for the product lines.

Re-Introduction of TekGear.Ca

This was the first domain we had but it took a backseat when we acquired the tekgear.com domain. By reintroducing TekGear.Ca we are going to reflect the stock status of our two warehouses (Winnipeg, MB & Pembina, ND) as well as quote prices in US and CDN funds.

It may not sound like much for our US customers but it should stop the deluge of emails from our Canadian customers who want pricing in CDN.

Split Ship

There are times where we only have a limited amount of stock of a certain item or on multi SKU orders where one or more items may be out of stock. Instead of an all or none approach to shipping, we will offer the ability to split ship the order so that instock items can be shipped immediately while longer lead time parts can be shipped at a later date.
More Shipping options

Until recently, we have been only able to use the UPS EDI in order to generate real time shipping quotes. The new page will have options for UPS, FedEx, and CanadaPost. Sorry no USPS yet. The shipping rates will also use the respective US and Canadian warehouses as a basis point resulting in lower shipping charges and the addition of domestic Ground level services.
Format Change

The web page will be optimized for a 1024 x 768 resolution as <0.5% of all of our visitors use a lower resolution.

There are many more changes to come and the site should be live by the end of August.
