This is the highest level attainable in the Microsoft Partner Program.

Brainboxes have been a Microsoft Certified Partner for a number of years and recently saw an opportunity to upgrade its membership through the continual improvements that it has made to its products, services and experience.

“We are very proud to have achieved this level of partnership with Microsoft,” commented Stephen Evans, MD of Brainboxes. “What is particularly rewarding are the endorsements that we received from seven of our top customers that were contacted by Microsoft regarding their experiences and application uses of Brainboxes’ products.”

Karl Noakes, director of the Partner Development Group at Microsoft, said: “Customers are looking for partner companies that can bridge the gap between their business demands and technology capabilities. They need to trust in someone that can act as an expert adviser for their long-term strategic technology plans. Microsoft Gold Certified Partners, which have certified expertise and direct training and support from Microsoft, can build a positive customer experience with our technologies. To meet this release date Brainboxes were ready with a Microsoft Approved and Signed driver for both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

“We have worked very hard over recent months to ensure that customers purchasing our products can use them in the latest Windows Vista PCs” said Stephen Evans, Managing Director of Brainboxes. “To ensure the best user experience Microsoft do not allow installation of products without approval into the 64bit version of Windows Vista. Customers can buy our products safe in the knowledge that we have had this approval from day one.”

“Software engineers and testers from the R&D team attended two Windows Vista ‘Logo-fest’ events in Taipei and Düsseldorf to work with Microsoft Engineers on testing their drivers as well as a ‘Plug Fest’ event in Redmond WA (the home of Microsoft’s Operations). Here Brainboxes’ products were tested in Windows Vista for compatibility with many other manufacturers’ systems,” continued Evans.

Brainboxes have its Windows Vista Drivers on Windows Update, providing a customer experience inline with the ‘Devices Just Work’ ethos that Microsoft has adopted for the Windows Vista release.

Brainboxes latest signed Release Candidate driver package is now available for download.

This driver is suitable for all UC, UP, PM and CC part code serial cards in:
· Windows Vista 32-bit
· Windows Vista 64-bit

I-PORT™ is now shipping!

One of the most anticipated Monocular HMDs is now available from Tek Gear!

The I-PORT™ is an ultrasmall monocular HMD. This supply contract is in support of NSTI's Parachute Descent Procedures Training program.

All Navy Aviation Survival Training Centers (ASTC) are using virtual reality trainers (VRT) to teach parachute descent procedures. The VRT can simulate parachute malfunctions (i.e., line over, riser twist or blown panels) and also allows the student to practice steering the chute into the wind and toward a suitable landing zone. The O2 OEM Kit is a drop in module that makes it easy to integrate high resolution microdisplays into new and existing designs. The O2 Kit includes eMagin's new SVGA+ OLED-XL microdisplays and Tek Gear's high performance controller.

An accessory for STS's AN/PVS-21 Low Profile Night Vision Goggle, the E-HUD gives the device unmatched sensor fusion capabilities. The E-HUD can overlay external video signals, such as navigation data or the output of a thermal scope, onto the real world scene. This provides the user with a high level of situational awareness.

"We selected the O2 as it was the only drop-in solution that could provide us with the high-resolution, low-power and all-weather operation that our customers demand," said Alan Page, General Manager, STS. "The OLED-XL provides the sharpest, brightest and most vibrant image we have seen on a microdisplay."

Tek Gear originally designed, tested and delivered the O2 kit with eMagin's color SVGA+ OLED microdisplay. According to Tony Havelka, President, Tek Gear, "When we did our tests with the new color OLED-XL we were amazed that we could obtain an incredibly bright image (>300 cd/m2) at less than 900mW for the entire system at its highest luminance setting. We immediately switched to the OLED-XL for the O2 Kit as this kind of power efficiency means longer run times and fewer batteries for troops to carry in the field."

"This first announced implementation of our OLED-XL technology bears out the promise of the technology that we first saw in our labs," noted Susan Jones, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, eMagin Corporation. "Tek Gear's quick implementation of the technology for the E-HUD certainly amplifies their integration capabilities and enhances their reputation as a major resource for custom wearable display systems."

eMagin's new OLED-XL devices typically feature significantly longer (>4x) luminance half life and exhibit at least twice the nominal luminance. The new technology also improves on eMagin OLED microdisplays' industry-leading power efficiency, depending on the specific OLED-XL product and operating parameters.

For the OLED-XL microdisplays, eMagin scientists developed a more efficient OLED structure while maintaining pixel-level efficiency. The results are brighter microdisplays that require no additional power consumption. Typical power consumption of a full color SVGA+ or SVGA 3D OLED-XL display running 60 Hz video at 60 cd/m2 is less than 250 mW. No heaters or special modes are required to achieve high quality, instant-on video performance at temperature ranges up to -40 degrees C and +65 degrees C.

Tek Gear specializes in designing electronic sub-systems for microdisplays used in near to eye applications. The O1, the world's smallest universal controller for eMagin's entire OLED product range, is no larger than the OLED itself. The O2 OEM Kit takes integration a step further by adding a higher efficiency power supply and luminance control to the controller and coupling it with an OLED-XL display. Integrating microdisplays into a near-eye product has never been easier.

For more information about Tek Gear and its innovative drop in microdisplay kits, readers can visit www.tekgear.com. For those of you who have them on a confirmed order, they should be at your location this week some time. Orders were filled on a First In First Out basis and we are sticking to the delivery schedule we set out back in August. If you have a quoted date for delivery expect it on or before that date. If you do not have one, give us a call to lock one in. Now is a great time to get off the "fence" and make sure you get your SV-6 before someone else snaps it up.

The SV-6 has been re-designed from the bottom up: new optics, new electronics and new cabling makes this the best and most reliable SV-6 model MicroOptical has ever made.

Website Update is Complete

The web site update is now complete! The main reason for this modification was to support dual input 3D. While we were at it, we added independent Gain and Offset adjustment as well as luminance control for each display to maintain image balance over the life of the product.

The new electronics support:
i) Single Input 2D
ii) Single Input 3D - Frame Sequential
iii) Dual Input 3D

If you have a dual output ATI video card, you should be able to see 3D on the Z800 now!

Retrofits should be quite simple and takes just a few minutes: just replace the PCB in the Z800 visor and the PCB in the interface module and you are done. We utilize the existing cabling and earbuds.

The tracker is NOT supported in this version as we have been unable to get any technical support from the manufacturer to include it in this revision.

The electronics are in final testing right now and should be available by Mid-September.

eMagin XL

New eMagin SVGA+ Color XL OLEDs are in!

We received our first batch and quickly put it on the test bench. While most of the changes are "backend" mods, there will be quite a few "frontend" mods that customers will notice:

Re-Introduction of TekGear.Ca

This was the first domain we had but it took a backseat when we acquired the tekgear.com domain. By reintroducing TekGear.Ca we are going to reflect the stock status of our two warehouses (Winnipeg, MB & Pembina, ND) as well as quote prices in US and CDN funds.

It may not sound like much for our US customers but it should stop the deluge of emails from our Canadian customers who want pricing in CDN.

Guaranteed In-Stock Program

Our industry is notorious for vapor-ware and phantom products. This not only causes confusion for customers it hurts the industry as a whole. Our mission has been to represent only products that are commercially available, can be purchased on an ongoing basis and have strong manufacturer's support behind them. These solid products are the foundation for growth of this industry.

We have also made it a priority to post information, such as datasheets, specs, price, and availability on every product on our web page. The Guaranteed In-Stock Program further reinforces our commitment to providing products in a timely manner and to instill a sense of confidence in the purchase process. A Guaranteed In-Stock icon will appear on every product page. Icons will reflect the quantity of product that we Guarantee is in stock at our warehouse and can be shipped that day. If we don't ship your order out on the day you order it, your shipping is free.

Split Ship

There are times where we only have a limited amount of stock of a certain item or on multi SKU orders where one or more items may be out of stock. Instead of an all or none approach to shipping, we will offer the ability to split ship the order so that instock items can be shipped immediately while longer lead time parts can be shipped at a later date.

More Shipping options

Until recently, we have been only able to use the UPS EDI in order to generate real time shipping quotes. The new page will have options for UPS, FedEx, and CanadaPost. Sorry no USPS yet. The shipping rates will also use the respective US and Canadian warehouses as a basis point resulting in lower shipping charges and the addition of domestic Ground level services.

Format Change

The web page will be optimized for a 1024 x 768 resolution as <0.5% of all of our visitors use a lower resolution.

There are many more changes to come and the site should be live by the end of August.
